My Space Takes the Offensive

Not long after being sued by parents for allegedly allowing child subscribers to be exposed to preditors on the site, My Space took the offensive and sued Scott Richter and his company "Media Breakaway" for violating the CAN-SPAM act. Media Breakaway is no stranger to the law after being sued by New York's AG- Elliot Spitzer and Microsoft for pretty much the same thing. Media Breakaway and Scott Richter have often been labeled the "Spam King of Colorado" for what many call questionable practices of sending millions of eMails out to recipients. It's nice to see the CAN-SPAM act being used - but I must admit - it will do nothing until it is Internationalized in some manner.

Now, as a result of the law suit by the parents against MySpace, MySpace has joined the ranks of the traditional media - and opted into posting Amber Alerts. This is really interesting - traditional media would have never faced a law suite like this - there was no interaction.
